Despite numerous broaches and shredded spinnakers in this windy 48-hour race under spinnaker the whole way, there was only one winner of the gnome. Sailing in just his first solo season, having only bought QII earlier in the year, Andrew did magnificently to finish the Celtic Challenge. However, disaster struck in the last race when he got a monster spinnaker wrap, spending 6 hours trying to unwrap it without success. Undeterred, Andrew decided that the only way to free it was to climb the mast, after going down below to sleep for 45 minutes until sunrise. After 45 minutes of fretting, Andrew rose, donned his harness, took a deep breath and emerged on deck to find the spinnaker had mysteriously unwrapped of its own accord and QII was merrily sailing in the wrong direction at 10 kts!
